Youth need guidance. They are going through a time when they are unsure about themselves and their surroundings. It is a time when they start asking questions about authority, faith and religion. Engaging your child in youth Bible study lessons is one way to ensure they get the support and counseling that they may need.

Steering a teen in the right direction can be difficult in the best of situations. Influence from media and peers are sometimes damaging to their moral, ethical and religious values. The increasing number of violent crimes by young people should alarm society as a whole.

Influencing young people to learn about Jesus and the scriptures should be the priority of adults. Help them make sense of their troubled world by understanding and applying the Word. There are simple ways to make the lessons entertaining and interesting for the younger generation.

There's an unfavorable preconceived idea that these particular classes are full of stuffy sermons. Transform the meeting from a one sided monologue to a discussion involving all the members. Have them talk about and discuss their views in regards to verses from the scripture. The counselor must only guide the direction of the discussion and not dominate it.

Teenagers sometimes feel that adults do not value their opinion. A good facilitator should be a good listener. There are parts of the Bible that are clear yet there are also many parts that are open to interpretation. Listen to the interpretation of the members but ensure that the discussion remain positive and constructive.

The youth Bible study lessons should be relevant to the members lives and experiences. What is most important to the success of the class is that the participants return for further mentoring. Encourage them to invite their friends to the session and to practice spreading the word. The classes help form the next generation of mentors.
